Saint Michael the Archangel Parish
Diocesis Sanctissimae Trinitatis in Almata
Dear friends!
At the request of the local Bishop, José Luís Mumbieli Sierra,
we are to revive the Saint Michael the Archangel Parish in Almaty.
This parish existed from 1905 to 1923
and was the only place of Catholic worship in this former capital of Kazakhstan.
It most likely served Poles conscripted into the tsarist army.
It survived an avalanche of stones, earthquakes, but did not survive the Bolsheviks.
Following Pope Francis' visit to Kazakhstan,
the authorities of this predominantly Muslim country
agreed to the establishment of a new Catholic Parish.
By the Bishop's decision, its patron saint will once again be Saint Michael the Archangel.
Therefore, we must „resurrect”
the Saint Michael the Archangel Parish!
We already have an idea of what our house of prayer could look like:
Now we just need to buy a plot of land and then build this church!
Another option is to buy an existing building and adapt it to our needs.
Unfortunately, the diocese cannot afford such an expense.
Hence our request for help.
